Verres Teintes

Ivan Katalinic

📍 Andaz Belvedere, Vienna, Austria

Through vibrant palettes and a fearless use of color, Katalinić’s subjects are both revealed and obscured. Whether wrapped in dreamlike textures of lavender and rose or immersed in fiery shadows of crimson and noir, each figure becomes a vessel for quiet power, resilience, and contemplation. They do not demand our gaze — they hold it with disarming calm.

The women in these paintings are not merely muses or models; they are conduits of self-awareness, vulnerability, and dignity. The artist does not paint them to be seen — he paints how they see. Their expressions, often caught between stillness and motion, suggest untold stories, private reckonings, or the final moment before catharsis.

This piece belongs to a series of portraits inspired by Loewe’s SS18 campaign “Fruits”, in which photographer Steven Meisel captured Vittoria Ceretti as an emblem of freshness, symbolism, and color.
