Untitled (An Fantastische Frühstück)

Yuri Rodekin

📍 Galerie Zberro, 8th arrondissement, Paris, 🇫🇷

Yuri Rodekin uses the traditional technique of oil painting to express his evocative and reflective style. His mysteriously portrayed figures are often combined with landscapes tinged with surreal and dreamlike elements. Reflection plays a key role in his work, serving as a form of self-discovery and as a gateway to hidden and parallel realities. His palette frequently includes vibrant colors that contrast with the serenity of his artistic themes.

How does Yuri develop his introspective style? Through a Live Painting session in the European art capital, Paris, the artist will create an original piece for the collaboration between Untitled Gallery and Galerie Zberro. Join forces to shed light on the creative process of artists, in order to understand their creative talent. This time, hosted and curated by the very own Sonia Borrell."

The work will be available exclusively through this platform.

How it's made

Yuri Rodekin presents a mysterious scene between two sisters during breakfast. One of them seems to have more power over the other, holding a globe in the palm of her hands, with her back enigmatically turned to the audience. The other smiles contentedly. The audience has been able to appreciate the creation of this marvelous canvas through our platform and that of Cultura Inquieta during Paris Art Week and as a related event to the exhibition La Vie Est Belle, curated by collector Sonia Borrell.

"The artist's philosophy is strongly influenced by classical literature, especially Balzac's phrase, "Madame Bovary, c'est moi," with which he identifies when creating his characters, who are a true reflection of the artist's mind. For Yuri Rodekin, his representations depict reality because he believes that ideas, once conceived, already exist. The creative process of this work was modified as the artist developed it. If we look at his earlier sketches, the main theme was much darker; the younger sister had a bruise around her eye. The artist decided to soften the relationship between the characters."

The artist uses colored pencils to shape the silhouettes of the characters. For the rest of the work, he employs the technique of oil on canvas. The composition of the details of the objects also evolved as the artist progressed in creating the piece, adding or removing plates, changing the food depicted on them, etc.

With a finer brush, the artist decorates the tableware that sits atop the table as a display of his personal passion for porcelain pieces.
