Metamorfosis

Change or evolution, perhaps neither forward nor backward. Just change. Like Kafka's *Metamorphosis*, from one point in history to another. From who you were to who you are. Beyond what the paint on the canvas represents, my place as an artist in that exact moment. A discovery in itself. Like the day Gregor Samsa woke up transformed into a bug. The shift overnight of a style, standing on the edge of a precipice. A step into the void, trying to take flight, like swallows leaping from the balcony. A curious coincidence that "fear" and "metamorphosis" both start with "m," because there is no one without the other. There is no evolution without "fear"; no leap without terror; no real change without uncertainty.

How it's made

/Celia Gallego employs the traditional technique of oil on canvas in all her works. This method involves mixing pigments with an oil-based binder that allows the pigments to adhere to the canvas. By playing with layers, brightness, and transparency, the artist succeeds in creating her unmistakable portraits of fragmented faces.
