La Salida

Celia Gallego

📍 Thompson by Hyatt, Madrid, Spain

obra;

Celia brings order to the chaos of multiplicity in works like this one, where gray faces and skin-toned ones alternate. The two main faces contrast with each other, one showing a closed eye and the other an open eye, symbolizing the awakening of consciousness.

In the upper right corner of the canvas, we can see a glimpse of the sky, which brings a sense of air, relieving the suffocating feeling caused by the congestion of faces. This small detail gives the work its title; a gap seen as an escape from all those suffocating relationships and the precise moment when someone realizes that finding a solution is possible, no matter how small it may be.

How it's made

/Celia Gallego employs the traditional technique of oil on canvas in all her works. This method involves mixing pigments with an oil-based binder that allows the pigments to adhere to the canvas. By playing with layers, brightness, and transparency, the artist succeeds in creating her unmistakable portraits of fragmented faces.
