King dog vs. Catzilla in Paris

Untitled Gallery

📍 Galerie Zberro, 8th arrondissement, Paris, France

The multicultural background of Venezuelan artist Sol Felpeto, shaped between Madrid and Buenos Aires, is reflected in her works, marked by a dynamic cartoon style. Her canvases are influenced by her initial studies in veterinary medicine and later in fashion, incorporating playfully dressed animals. Anthropomorphism, therefore, is one of the main elements in Sol's work, used as a tool to convey specific themes behind each piece

How does Sol construct her imaginative world? Through a Live Painting session in the European art capital, Paris, the artist will create an original piece for the collaboration between Untitled Gallery and Galerie Zberro. Join forces to shed light on the creative process of artists, in order to understand their creative talent. This time, hosted and curated by the very own Sonia Borrell.

The work will be available exclusively through this platform.

How it's made

This work belongs to the series of city destructions created by artist Sol Felpeto. After portraying New York and Tokyo, King Dog and Catzilla are depicted in the midst of conflict among the most iconic buildings of Paris. With a cartoon style, the artist conveys her most personal humor through influences from both the comic book world and cinema. In this way, Sol Felpeto intersperses ironic phrases among her colorful characters.

"For more than five hours, Sol Felpeto exclusively painted this canvas for Untitled Gallery to celebrate art week in the French capital. The creative process was streamed via the Untitled Gallery platform and alongside Cultura Inquieta. Additionally, the broadcast could be viewed at the Zberro gallery, where her work was displayed in an exhibition curated by Sonia Borrell. While painting, we had an enriching conversation with the artist to better understand the different phases of the work's development. "

After previously planning the composition and sketching it in pencil, the artist proceeds to apply acrylic paint to the canvas, using bold and vibrant colors to create the figures of the work's protagonists. Sol Felpeto completes the structure of the Eiffel Tower with metallic paint.

The artist creates a color gradient with acrylics to give volume to the background. This consists of quick, thick, individual strokes that generate the effect of a sunset.
After letting the acrylic paint dry, Sol Felpeto uses markers to incorporate her iconic phrases onto the canvas and to add the finishing touches to the characters.
